The Dream
While attending a play in mid 2000 with his Father, Daniel caught the eye of two eager gentleman. The two men were David Heyman and Steve Kloves, both of which has worked with his Father and Mother. During intermission of the play they caught Dan’s dad in the hallway and suggested he come to audition. Daniel was more than excited, but his parents were still weary about the subject of him acting.
Directer Chris Columbus saw a video of Daniel in David Copperfield and knew that he was destined to play him. He knew he was the one to play Harry Potter and had no doubt about it. His parents on the other hand turned down the offer at first. After much deliberation however, they took into consideration that there son wanted so badly to try. The Morning after the play, David Heyman called to convince his parents to let Dan come for an audition. His Parents agreed to an informal meeting and audition.
A few days later Dan was in his home in the bath, when he heard the phone ring. He heard his Dad say “Hello David.” He knew that they only knew one David, so he figured they were called to tell them that he did not make the part. He heard his Dad say good bye and come up the stairs. Within seconds he had burst into the bathroom. He said, “Guess who got the part of Harry Potter!” Daniel was in awe and within 20 minutes the press was at his house asking questions. Later that same night Daniel woke up at around 2 a.m. and yelled to his father to come into the room. He asked if it was true that he was really going to be Harry Potter. His father replied telling him to go back to bed.
In August Daniel went to some screen tests to compare him working with the other members who were cast to play in the Harry Potter Films.
