Something Wicked
In early 2003, filming of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” began. Before beginning, the new director, Alfonso Cuaron, who had is own special way of protraying the book, had the three stars, Daniel, Emma, and Rupert write essays about their character’s and themselves. He also had them do theater preparing activities, such as improv and stand ups. Daniel found these excercises to be very useful. In one interview he is quoted on how he prepares for a day of filming. He
talks about listening to music to get ready for certain scenes, having long talks with his father, and much, much, more.
“There’s a lot of teenage angst in this one, probably more than the book. It’s much more of an internal journey for the children, especially for Harry. And he’s much more comfortable with confrontation, especially with Snape. He’s a lot angrier. If you had all this stuff happening to you in real life, you’d be pretty angry too.” -Daniel.
The third film was one of Dan’s favorites that he worked on. He was happy to work with one of his long time Idols, Gary Oldman (Sirius Black). Director Alfonso Cuaron stated he was very lucky to be able to work with the three stars and said, “It was so clear how suited these kids are to play their characters.” Later Chris Columbus added, “it’s a sense of real pride to see that these kids have become such accomplished professional actors. It’s like seeing your own children up on screen.”
The film was released on June 4, 2004 grossing at $789,791,069 world wide, placing itself at 16th on the TransAtlantic Highest Grossing Films List. Critics praised the film to be the Best Potter film yet and could not wait for more. The fourth film, which started production in early 2004, was set to make another record and win the hearts of all. Throughout the promotional tour, praise from many Actors, Producers, and Directors, was given to Dan, Emma, and Rupert for there outstanding performance.
